Yorkshire Post Team of the Weekend: Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United well-represented

SO what of the weekend that was, then. It started with a comprehensive victory for Sheffield Wednesday over Birmingham City, but it is fair to say that Saturday's action was mixed. Certainly result-wise.

A formidable last line of defence in the second half at Loftus Road and made some key saves to ensure another priceless win for David Wagner’s high-flying side. Just gets the nod ahead of Victor Valdes.

Defence (right to left): Marc Roberts (Barnsley).

The Penistone lad is having a super season and produced another imposing display along with Angus MacDonald as the Reds claimed a noteworthy clean sheet at Reading - their second on the spin. Also went close with a header.

Jake Wright (Sheffield United).

His proud record of never being on the losing side as a Blade continued. A display of character at London Road and won his headers and tackles as all defenders worth their salt should do.

Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United).

Not far behind Wright and was also strong in the air and on the deck and showed polish with the ball going forward too.

Jack Hunt (Sheffield Wednesday).

A marauding presence against the Blues and showed pace, intent and tenacity. Wonderful ball to set up Winnall’s goal and Wednesday’s killer second.

Romaine Vincelot (Bradford City).

Pressed into service in his accustomed role in the engine room, the Frenchman produced a strong and accomplished performance.

Richie Smallwood (Rotherham United).

Broke up play superbly and protected the back four well and underlined his importance to the Millers cause - and just why supporters could not understand why he was allowed to go to Scunthorpe in the first half of the season.

Izzy Brown (Huddersfield Town).

Has looked different class during his time with Town and produced another quality dazzling performance and helped himself to a fourth goal in six outings. Clearly loving life with Huddersfield.

Lazar Markovic (Hull City).

Posed problems aplenty for Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs and showed the skills which he can bring to the party for Hull. A lively presence and threat all game.

Grabbed a late winner to take his tally to 20 so far this term. A captain’s effort and fully underlined his importance to the Blades. Predatory nous and presence.

Sam Winnall (Sheffield Wednesday).

Clearly fancied it against a Birmingham side who he had scored three times against while in the colours of Barnsley earlier this term. Dovetailed well with Rhodes and showed a real desire and appetite and deservedly got his goal late on when he headed home superbly following Hunt’s centre for his first strike for Wednesday.

Manager: Carlos Carvalhal (Sheffield Wednesday).
