Yorkshire's Team of the Window - How the White Rose's top January signings line up ...

THE bi-annual palaver that is the transfer window is now officially closed for business - at least until the emergency loan opens shortly, at any rate.

Some what of the window that was? Who are the crème de la crème who have arrived at Yorkshire's clubs - to hopefully provide that vital goal thrust to firm up promotion credentials, play-off pushes or survival missions - or keep the door shut at the back or make things happen in the boiler room of the team in the middle of the pitch.

Here's The Yorkshire Post select XI from this year's new year window.

The experienced Legia Warsaw keeper has arrived as a dependent third-keeping option and will battle with Eldin Jakupovic to provide competition and back up to Allan McGregor in the run-in. Capped ten times by Slovakia and linked with West Ham a few years ago. Decent pedigree and almost signed for Hull on the previous deadline day, so Bruce clearly rates him.

2: Craig Alcock (Doncaster Rovers)

Already looks a '˜Steady Eddie' at the back for Rovers and able to play at right-back and also as a wing-back. The sort of dedicated, no-fuss, diligent professional that every side needs. Solid signing.

3: Ritchie de Laet (Middlesbrough)

Provides cover across the back line and part of Leicester's promotion from the Championship a few years ago and will be eager to get another on his CV. May cover on the left for the injured George Friend.

4: Kevin Long (Barnsley)

Only around until February 19, but has looked resolute in the heart of the Reds back four and has only finished on the losing side just twice in his time at the club so far. Barnsley captain Alfie Mawson has also clearly benefited from his presence.

The Tunisian has made an impressive transition to English football since his arrival, with testimony to his impact such that without him, Rotherham shipped four goals at home to Charlton. Millers fans will be hoping that his absence with a groin issue is a short one.

6: Toumani Diagouraga (Leeds United)

Even accounting for his age - 29 in the summer - £575,000 for Brentford's player-of-the-year is good business to most people. Steve Evans beat off competition for Rangers' Mark Warburton - not too bad a judge of a player in his short but accomplished time at Griffin Park - to land him and it looks shrewd business. Has physicality and strength in midfield and can also play a bit. Potential to become a crowd favourite at Elland Road.

7: Chris Burke (Rotherham United)

No spring chicken, granted. But a proven Championship operator, with hopes abound that his supply line can help turn a few games in time. Having been used sparingly of late at Forest, will be seeking to make up for lost time. If he can rewind the clock to some of his time at Birmingham and Cardiff particularly, everyone is a winner.

8: Josh Brownhill (Barnsley)

Highly-rated at Preston and likely to return to their line-up in future years, he's still only 20. Did his bit to help North End to promotion last term and is assigned with ensuring Barnsley finish the season strongly. As loan signings go, a decent one.

9: Jordan Rhodes (Middlesbrough)

Rhodes means goals at Championship level and while £9m is a vast outlay for a second-tier side with add-ons as well, it won't look so excessive if Boro secure promotion.

10: Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday)

Looked fit, sharp and predatory at the end of his loan at the Owls and the odds are on the money spent to prize him away from Norwich being well spent -especially if he fires the goals to help the Owls to nail down their play-off spot. Cost a fair bit less than Rhodes, too..

11: Nick Powell (Hull City)

Seen as a star in the making a few years back at Old Trafford, but is yet to truly fulfil his potential and has a bit of a point to prove, which is no bad thing sometimes when you are still fairly young. Schooled in the famous Crewe academy and moved to Manchester United, so obviously has something about him. Steve Bruce is a sage manager and expect him to put his arm around Powell - along with ex-United number two Mike Phelan - and get the best out of him.
