Former Lion lifts Leeds

FORMER British Lions hooker Andy Titterrell has handed Leeds Carnegie's bid to avoid relegation a significant boost by agreeing to stay until the end of the season.

Titterrell, 29, initially joined on a three-month deal which was due to expire after Sunday's vital home Guinness Premiership fixture with Wasps.

However, the ex-Sale, Gloucester and England front-row has opted to extend that stay with both parties due to sit down and discuss future plans when the campaign draws to a close.

"We are delighted to have agreed an extension with Andy," said Leeds director of rugby Andy Key.

"He has fitted in extremely well since arriving at the club and has been able to put his vast experience to good use with us.

"He has been in great form over the last four games and hopefully he can continue that on Sunday."

Titterrell featured in the crucial victory at his former club Sale last Friday - their first Premiership success since December - which puts bottom-placed Leeds just one point adrift of Worcester.

They entertain Wasps this weekend and Titterrell said: "Leeds Carnegie have given me an opportunity to play in the Guinness Premiership and hopefully I have been able to reward that faith with my performances in recent weeks.

"It is a massive privilege to continue playing here. I am focused on Sunday's game against Wasps now and hopefully building on last weeks win at Sale."
