Fourth is with Huddersfield as they edge Hallamshire in close final

HUDDERSFIELD are the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association's Scratch League champions for the fourth year in succession.

In a closely contested final at Rotherham, they got the better of Hallamshire 4-3 with wins from Charlotte Heath, Pat Wrightson, Georgia Holden and Sandra Paul.

Becca Hembrough, Megan Illingworth and Val Swales returned full points for runners-up Hallamshire, who received the Division One leading qualifier trophy thanks to a total of 12pts and 37.5 wins.

Huddersfield had defeated Ganton 4-3 in the semi-finals with Hannah Holden, Heath, Harriet Richardson and Georgia Holden winning their matches, the latter by one hole in the deciding contest having stood on the 18th tee all square.

Ganton's points came from Karen Lee, Pat Smillie and Sue Blaeford.

Hembrough and Illingworth had also won for Hallamshire in their 5-2 semi-final win over York as did Shirley Sivil, Pauline Bramley and Sam Harben. Swales and Heather Staniforth halved their matches.

In the Division 2 play-off, Oakdale beat Sand Moor, who won the Sue Johnson Trophy as top qualifier in the division.
