The five-year-old looks a thoroughly progressive type and can defy an 8lb hike in the ratings.

Kings Grey bumped into a good one when second to Bellvano last time, but the Equinity Novices’ Chase appears to be an eminently more winnable contest.

A winner over fences in November, Kings Grey has been placed on each of his four subsequent starts.

Meanwhile, Fruity O’Rooney will not run in tomorrow’s William Hill-sponsored Grimthorpe Handicap Chase on Doncaster – the feature of the track’s final NH meeting of the season.

Trainer Gary Moore believes the going will be too fast, and is saving him for Cheltenham in the hope he makes the cut for the JLT Specialty Handicap Chase.

Moore said: “We’ll just have to wait to see if he gets in at Cheltenham. It’s fingers crossed.”

Fruity O’Rooney was most unfortunate at Doncaster on his last start when jockey Jamie Moore had to put up with a slipped saddle and lost irons in the Sky Bet Chase in January. The nine-year-old still managed to finish third behind Calgary Bay.

William Buick, the dual St Leger-winning jockey, faces a battle to be fit for the new Flat season after suffering a fractured jaw in a nightclub incident.

The rider will undergo scans today after flying back to Britain from Dubai after the incident, which marred a party, organised by Frankie Dettori, to mark the retirement of weighing room veteran Richard Hills.

It prompted reports that Buick will miss both the lucrative Dubai World Cup meeting at the end of this month and the start of the 2012 Flat campaign.

Yet Buick played down these fears. “The police are investigating it,” he said.

“I’m hoping to be back riding at Jebel Ali next Friday.”

Meanwhile Thirsk-based Silvestre de Sousa made a flying start to his new association with Godolphin when Do It All won the Zabeel Mile at Meydan last night.

Yorkshire owner Sir Robert Ogden ended his association with National Hunt racing when Dark Shadow prevailed at Ludlow.

Ogden will now concentrate solely on the Flat, which will disappoint many given his success in the winter game with the likes of Voy Por Ustedes, Iris Royal, Exotic Dancer and Marlborough.
