Future on hold as Mills continues his comeback with promotion triumph

THERE have been very few highs in Pablo Mills's four years at Rotherham United, but despite the administrations and the relegations the defender-cum-midfielder says it will all be forgotten if the Millers win promotion at Wembley.

The League Two play-off final could be the final act of the 26-year-old's eventful career with the South Yorkshire club as he is out of contract in the summer, and after four turbulent years the former Derby County trainee is eager to give the fans something to smile about.

"It's taken it's toll on myself and on the fans, but it will be worth it if we win," said Mills.

"Instead of fighting to stay in the league, we're fighting to win promotion, and it's a completely different outlook for the club now. It would be massive for the community if we were to win promotion after so much upheaval for the club; administration, the points deductions and having to move out of the town.

"That would be a real positive."

Mills is yet to decide on his future, insisting he has put talks with manager Ronnie Moore and chairman Tony Stewart on hold until after tomorrow's play-off final.

"I've not put any thought to it really, I'm just concentrating on the game," said Mills, who needed a loan spell at non-league Crawley Town two seasons ago to re-energise his passion for the club.

"It's well known I had my problems here but I've got my head down, I've done the hard work and got myself back in the team.

"Whatever happens after the game with regards to my contract, happens. My focus has been on trying to win promotion for Rotherham.

"I'd like to stay here, the club's going in the right direction, and it'd be great to play for the club in a higher league.

"But if this is my last game then there's no better way than going out with a promotion and a win at Wembley."

Mills arrived from Derby as a defender but played in midfield under Mark Robins and then Ronnie Moore.

"It's always nice to have another position, and playing midfield has opened up more doors for me," said Mills.

"Ronnie's brought some steel back into us, teams are finding it harder to break us down.

"And that's down to him, and we just need to continue that against a very attack-minded Dagenham."
