Booth and Maw look to chase down Aberdeen leader Howard

ROTHERHAM’S David Booth carded a second successive 69 to stand tied for 11th going into the final round of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour’s Paul Lawrie Foundation Granite City Classic at Newmachar GC in Aberdeen.

Paul Howard, a former England international who plays out of Southport & Ainsdale GC, carded a second-round 66, six under par, to dip from seven to 13 under to lead with one round to play.

Booth had five birdies and two bogeys in his 69 while Sheffield’s James Maw is one shot further back (68 71) after a solid round saw him tag two birdies and one bogey to 15 pars.

Moor Allerton’s Joe Heraty had an adventurous two-under-par 70, the same score he handed in on the first day, mingling two bogeys and a double bogey with half a dozen birdies.

Alson on 140 is Doncaster’s Graeme Clark who improved on his first round by six shots, shooting a 67 with seven birdies, including four in a row from the 2nd.

Hornsea’s Steve Uzzell also bettered his opening effort by six shots (74 68) with a faultless round which included four birdies and no dropped shots.

Players who missed the cut included Marcus Armitage (Howley Hall, 73 70), Adam Walker (Huddersfield, 74 72), Michael Skelton (Middlesbrough, 75 71), Nick McCarthy (Moortown, 76 72) and Tom Perry (Abbeydale, 81 71).
