Booth profits after second place in Shropshire

ROTHERHAM’S David Booth earned himself a cheque for £6,000 as he took second place in the Wealth Design Invitational on the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour.

Booth shot rounds of 66 68 67 to finish two shots back of Bawburgh’s Andrew Marshall (65 66 68) at Hawkstone Park, in Shropshire.

He was out in level par and then fired three birdies and an eagle 3 – the latter at the 502-yard par-5 14th – and was fortunate that a bogey at the last did not alter the outcome.

Oulton Hall’s Daniel Gavins had led after rounds one and two, but he slipped back to tie fourth (62 68 74) and earn £1,475.

His round got off to an awful start with a triple bogey 7 at the 420-yard par-4 first and he also bogeyed the sixth.

Gavins managed to complete the front nine with a birdie, and had two more plus two bogeys on his way home.

Sheffield’s James Maw placed equal 12th (69 69 68). After two bogeys on the way out, he had five birdies in six holes from the 10th.

The only hole in that run which he did not birdie, he dropped a shot, but managed to retrieve it with a birdie at the last.

Moor Allerton’s Joe Heraty carded his third consecutive 69, which included four birdies – three of them on the back nine – and two bogeys.

Middlesbrough’s Michael Skelton (65 74 70) and Abbeydale’s Tom Perry (68 69 72) were tied 28th.

Skelton, out in one over, birdied three of his first five holes on the way home, but had a late stumble with a bogey at the 17th.

Perry reached the turn level, two bogeys wiping out the advantage gained from two birdies, and he had two more birdies coming home, but also a bogey and a double bogey.

Chris Halley, of Malton & Norton, tied 38th (66 70 74). After dropping four shots in five holes from the fifth, he birdied the 10th and eagled the 502-yard par-5 14th. However, he slipped late on with bogeys at 15 and 18.

Hornsea’s Steve Uzzell (73 66 72) birdied nine and 10 after dropping three shots in his front nine, shed another shot at 11 and birdied 15.

Howley Hall’s Marcus Armitage (70 69 75) tied 51st. His front nine began and closed with birdies, but there were four bogeys in between. He had two birdies and two double bogeys on the way in.
