Champions Yorkshire in need of a helping hand

Yorkshire will need to beat Northumberland today and hope that Cheshire beat Lancashire if they are to have any hope of retaining their Northern Counties Match Week title.

Lancashire won yesterday’s battle of the Roses, coming back from a 2-1 deficit from the morning’s foursomes to triumph 5-4.

Two matches were halved in the afternoon and a win in either would have earned Jean Waring’s side a tie ahead of today’s final-day encounters.

Fulford’s Charlotte Austwick and Lees Hall’s Holly Morgan led the way for Yorkshire in the morning and came up with a 2&1 victory.

Rotherham’s Olivia Winning and Huddersfield’s Megan Lockett followed suit, winning by the same score, which was then repeated in the final foursomes, but going against Woodsome Hall’s Rochelle Morris and Cleckheaton’s Olivia Hamilton.

In the singles Winning was Yorkshire’s only winner while Morgan and Morris returned halves.

In the other matches, Cheshire whitewashed Cumbria 9-0 and Durham just edged Northumberland 5-4.

Yorkshire 4 Lancashire 5 (Yorkshire names first):
