Choice of fantasy captain could be crucial for leaderboard bid

GET the stats book read, the manager’s chalk board out and the television subscription paid up – Fantasy Golf is back.

The Yorkshire Post’s free-to-enter online game returns for a third season at this year’s Masters Tournament at Augusta National on April 7.

From the year’s first major all the way through to the Dubai World Championship at the start of December, the best golfers in the world are not only playing for big prizes for themselves, but also for points for you, the Fantasy Golf manager.

The big question is, who will be crowned the Yorkshire Post’s Fantasy Golf manager of the year?

As with last year, players get the chance to choose one player out of each of the eight categories, from world No 1 Martin Kaymer to Yorkshire’s own John Parry.

Will Tiger Woods get in your team or have you lost faith in his ability? Will you fill your team with in-form Europeans at the expense of declining Americans?

Remember to choose wisely, because points are scored by players competing at tournaments on both the US PGA Tour and the European Tour. The big tournaments like the majors and World Golf Championship tournaments carry greater significance by being a 50 per cent extra bonus event.

Every week, Fantasy Golf managers can make up to two transfers, and on the 50 per cent bonus events, that goes up to three transfers.

This year, points count double for captains. So if Lee Westwood is your leader and wins a tournament, his points count double. If he misses the cut, he loses twice the amount of points.

A new introduction this year is multiple teams, affording managers the chance to run anything up to five teams.

Each Tuesday, we will print a codeword in the Yorkshire Post that you will need to use to log on to our website, fantasygolf.yorkshirepost.co.uk to make transfers. If a counting tournament runs over into Monday, then the codeword will be printed on a Wednesday.

Leaderboards and week summaries will also be available on our website, www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport

So log on now and pick a team to win you the 2011 Yorkshire Post Fantasy Golf game.
