Chris Hanson endures visa worry before heading for Australian PGA in Queensland

But following an impressive display at Leopard Creek just a week after securing his playing privileges, the 30-year-old thought he might not be able to travel to compete in the Australian PGA Championship in Queensland.

As he prepared to head to Brisbane via Dubai, Hanson said: "It is a long journey, but it will be worth it.

"I nearly could not fly though due to a visa misunderstanding. That would have been a nightmare."

His scores of 70 71 75 73 gave him a 289 one-over-par aggregate in his first tournament since winning his European Tour card 10 days ago and earned him €7,950 for a share of 44th place.

"It's been a great week at Leopard Creek," he added. "It was nice to compete from the start and get some money on the Order of Merit straight away.

"There's a long season ahead, full of many ups and downs, I’m sure, but I’m off and running."

The Woodsome Hall player had two bogeys and a double bogey six, and just one birdie, in a troublesome outward nine.

But he had his best inward score of the week - two-under 35 - thanks to seven pars and two birdies, the latter coming at the 11th and 13th.

He accumulated 13 birdies over the 72 holes, eight bogeys and three double bogeys.

"Think my caddy @StevenTooby summed up the week walking off the last," Hanson said on Twitter. "Some fantastic stuff, but a load of c**p too."
