OULTON HALL’S Daniel Gavins and David Booth (Rotherham) tied for fourth place in the Hotelplanner.com Europro Tour Glenfarclas Open at Earl of Mar GC, in Glasgow.
Wolverhampton’s Aaron Rai beat Thame’s Craig Hinton on the second play-off hole to win after they had finished eight under par, three ahead of James Adams (Druids Heath).
Booth hauled himself up from 27th place in the final round of three, shooting a five-under-par 65, while Gavins carded a 71 made up of one bogey and 17 pars following rounds of 71 and 64. Each of them earned £1,475.
Scott Campbell (Hallowes) tied 24th (71 70 70), Howley Hall’s Marcus Armitage 48th (68 75 72) and Michael Skelton, of Middlesbrough, 59th (73 68 78).
Booth (70 71 65) started at the 10th and followed a birdie at 13 with an eagle 3 at the 478-yard par-5 15th.
He also birdied the 201-yard par-3 17th as well as holes seven and eight, his only dropped shot of the day coming at the fifth.
Campbell also started at the 10th and after birdieing the 14th dropped two shots at the next.
His second nine was a rollercoaster affair as he alternated between birdies and bogeys through to the sixth hole, taking a breather at the third which he parred.
Armitage had three birdies in his first five holes, having also started at the 10th, but bogeyed 16.
He had two birdies on his second nine, but also two single bogeys and two damaging double bogeys.
The 10th was also Skelton’s first and set an unfortunate tone for a day in which he went 10 shots higher than his second-round 68.
He double bogeyed the 147-yard par-3 hole, had a single at 12, four in his first five holes ‘coming home’ and a further one at the ninth, his last.
