Harrogate Union players excel in President’s Reunion Trophy

COMPETITION was fierce in the Yorkshire Past President’s Re-Union Trophy with only three points separating the top 11 at Forest Park.

Two Harrogate Union contestants, Derek Helme and Graham Reed, tied on 38 points with victory going to the former on back-nine countback (17 to 16).

Four players returned 37 points, and again countback was called into play.

Kit Chapman (East Riding) took third ahead of David Crossley (York), with a third Harrogate Union competitor Ian Smith fifth and Tom Nutman (York) sixth.

In the team event, where a union’s best three scores counted, Harrogate, not surprisingly, emerged triumphant thanks to Helme, Reed and Smith with 113.

York (Crossley, Nutman and Bill Allen) were runners-up on 110 and Leeds (David Long, Stanley Fingret and James Denton) took third on 102 points on countback from East Riding’s Kit Chapman, John Deeming and Robert Megginson.
