Hillsborough's Joe Dean starts EuroPro campaign with top-five finish

HILLSBOROUGH'S Joe Dean began the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season with a promising fifth-place performance in the Motocaddy Masters at Frilford Heath.

The former English amateur champion bogeyed the last to miss out on a share of fourth, but did well to overcome a first-round 74 with subsequent scores of 67 69 to earn £1,516.

He had two birdies in in outward half of level par before a birdie blitz that saw him gain four shots against the card in six holes from the 12th.

Former England international Will Whiteoak, of Shipley, placed 23rd with scores of 73 73 70.

He had four birdies in the first seven holes of his final round, surrendering all but one of those shots with bogeys at nine, 11 and 13 .

Birdies at 14 and 15 got him back on track before he too bogeyed the last.

Lindrick’s Luke Jackson shot 74 72 72 for a two-over aggregate while Meltham’s Jamie Bower sandwiched a mid-round one-under-par 71 with scores of 75 and 76.

Scotland’s Paul O’Hara (NL Leisure) captured his first EuroPro Tour title with a superb closing round of 67.

He finished on 11 under, two shots ahead of 36-hole leader Stuart Grehan, of Ireland.
