Two Yorkshire golfers have been named in the provisional 20-man Great Britain and Ireland squad for September’s Walker Cup.
Halifax’s Nick Marsh – who won the the English Amateur Championship last year – and Daniel Brown (Bedale) have been selected in the long list of players to face the United States of America at Royal Lytham and St Annes on the weekend of September 12-13.
The 20-man squad will convene for a get-together at Lytham on July 21-22. The final 10-man team will then be announced in August.
Marsh, 20, who plays out of Huddersfield Golf Club, is the sixth-ranked amateur in Europe, and a regular county team-mate of Brown, also 20, who reached the quarter-finals of the British Amateur Championship last year and a Yorkshire Amateur finalist.
Nigel Edwards, Captain of the GB&I team, said, “We have selected a strong squad and it is up to them to perform this season.”
