Huddersfield’s Nick Marsh will be hoping to retain the crown when Pannal stages the event jointly with Alwoodley on July 27-28.

The club’s 2015 men’s captain Ian Shay said: “We are delighted to welcome this major event to Pannal.

“I believe it is testament to the enduring quality of our course which over it 109-year history has staged many top level championships and welcomed some of the most famous players in the history of our game.”

The title is a particularly difficult one to claim, as Marsh can attest, requiring stroke play qualification ahead of an arduous match play schedule.

When Marsh took possession of the trophy he will no doubt have been proud to see his name placed alongside those of such players as six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo as well as European Tour winner and former Ryder Cup player and captain Mark James.

Around 220 players will play 36-holes of stroke play over the Pannal and Alwoodley courses on alternate days, July 27-28, with the top 64 then playing match play at Alwoodley to determine the national champion.
