Rebecca Hudson slips five behind in Amsterdam

The Wheatley golfer trailed Boeljon by just one shot after the first round, but while the home player added a second consecutive four-under-par 69, Hudson had to settle for level-par 73.

Beginning her round at the 10th, she had birdies on the 12th and 3rd holes, but gave them back with bogeys at the 8th and 9th, her closing two holes.

She said: “I’m very disappointed with my finish because I had a flier on eight and cleared the green by 20 yards. I then had no shot, so I was quite happy with a good six.

“On nine, I hit the bank short of the green and didn’t get up and down. All in all, level par is okay because the course was quite tough and there were some tricky pin positions​.”

Boeljon is three strokes ahead of the field. The 27-year-old’s closest challenger is South African Stacy Lee Bregman, who shot 69, with England’s Holly Clyburn (70), winner of the title at the same venue in 2013, third on four under par.

If Boeljon takes victory she will become the first home winner of the tournament in 21 years since tournament director Liz Weima won at Rijk van Nijmegen in 1994.

The tournament concludes with the third round on Sunday, where the players will be competing for a €37,500 first prize.
