Tom Perry hopes to make swoop for Eagle Orchid cash

Perry will look to hunt down leader Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) in the chase for the £10,000 top prize on offer in the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour event.

He tacked on a 65 to his opening 70, his round built on a superb outward nine of 31, which included four birdies and an eagle 2 at the 329-yard par-4 eighth.

He leads the 10 Yorkshire players who avoided the 36-hole cut, Malton & Norton’s Chris Halley the next best one further back on six under (69 67).

Halley had no blemishes on his card, marking down 14 pars and four birdies.

Oulton Hall’s Daniel Gavins also enjoyed a bogey-free round, but had two fewer birdies than Halley for a 69 and is tied for 13th.

Graeme Clark, of Doncaster, is tied 23rd on three under after dipping one shot lower than his opening 70. He was out in one over, but three birdies in four holes from the 13th saw him come home in 32.

Snainton’s Alex Belt and Richard Law (Wakefield) share 29th place on a two-under aggregate.

Belt had identical outward and inward nines in that each contained two birdies and one bogey.

Law was out in two over, but then gathered four shots against the card with birdies at 13 and 14 followed by an eagle 3 at 15, although he immediately gave one back at 16.

Four Yorkshire contestants just made it through on the cut mark of one-under 143 - Sheffield’s James Maw (66 75), Beverley’s Michael Helyard (65 76), Rotherham’s David Booth (68 73) and Moor Allerton’s Joe Heraty (69 72).

Maw was out in level par, but birdies at 11 and 18 bookended a run of six dropped shots in five holes, including two double bogeys.

Helyard had only one par on his inward nine which packed in three birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 235-yard par-3 16th.

Booth appeared to be recovering from dropping three shots in his first five holes when he birdied eight and 11, but six pars followed before another shot was shed at the last.

Heraty had three birdies coming home for his 72, two of them at par-3 holes.

Hornsea’s Steve Uzzell (68 74), Middlesbrough’s Michael Skelton (71 73), Hessle’s Paul Lockwood (74 71) and Huddersfield’s Adam Walker (74 71) failed to make the cut.

South African Darryn Lloyd, who shared the seven-under 18-hole lead with Fenwick, carded level-par 71 and is one of four players sharing third alongside Perry.

Aberdour’s Scott Crichton is second on his own on eight under (68 66).

Play during Wednesday afternoon was suspended for almost three hours due to lightning and round two was finally completed when the last group putted out at 10.20pm, the light nights of east Scotland proving crucial in allowing the round to be completed without falling into a second day.
