Yorkshire county player Will Whiteoak to represent England Golf A team in Spain

SHIPLEY'S Will Whiteoak has been named in a six-player England Golf men's A team that will aim to regain the trophy in the Costa Ballena International Quadrangular Tournament in Spain on January 20-22.

He will be joined by Ben Amor (Marlborough), Will Enefer (Wrekin), Scott Gregory (Corhampton), Josh Hilleard (Farrington Park) and Andrew Wilson (Wynyard).

The round-robin Costa Ballena competition will pit England against teams from Finland, Germany and the hosts, Spain.

England won the tournament in 2014 and were only beaten in a title decider on the final day last year.

Twenty-one-year-old Whiteoak won the Tillman Trophy and led the northern qualifiers for the Brabazon Trophy, as well as compiling a number of top-20 finishes, last season.

He was part of Darryl Berry's Yorkshire side that regained the EGU Northern Counties title in the summer.

Amor, 20, was in England’s winning Costa Ballena team in 2014. Last season he was runner-up in the Darwin Salver and led the southern qualifiers for the Brabazon Trophy.

Eighteen-year-old Enefer represented England in the Boys’ Home Internationals. He was runner-up in the German boys’ amateur and had eight top-10 finishes in the 2015 season.

Gregory, 21, was third on the England Golf men’s order of merit. He also tied fourth place - alongside Lindrick's Jonathan Thomson - in the European Amateur and was second in the Lagonda Trophy.

Twenty-year-old Hilleard was fourth on the men’s order of merit after a season, in which he was top qualifier at the English amateur, and won both the Midlands amateur and North of England Youths.

Wilson, 21, was runner-up in the North of England Youths and was 10th in the French amateur stroke play.
