HEADINGLEY duo Steve Dennard and Graham Bond returned a superb net score of 60 to win the Tom Howard Memorial Trophy at Leeds Golf Centre, Wike Ridge.

The Leeds and District Rabbits' Golf Association event was sponsored by Tom Howard, a past member at Headingley, former president of the L&DRGA and a president of the Yorkshire Rabbits' Golf Association.

The pair got off to a flying start at the first hole with Bond following a good drive with a pitch shot that ran into the cup. A gross two gave them a net albatross one on the par-4 hole.

Dennard and Bond carried the early momentum through the round and defeated pairings from 22 other clubs in the fourball better ball, played from a 90 per cent handicap allowance.

Catterick's Ping Qualifier, also a fourball better ball competition, was won by Ruth Suffell and Rachel Miller with 37pts.

Division One of the seniors' Frank Wood trophy saw Bob Martin triumph with 40pts, five ahead of Gordon Hawley, who edged Alan Lovett for second place on count back.

R Combe was victorious in Division Two with 37, one in front of Joe McQueen and two better than Colin Hedworth.
