YORKSHIRE champion Megan Lockett stands eighth in the Welsh Open Ladies Amateur Stroke Play Championship after a second round of 77 at Conwy GC.

The Huddersfield GC player is 10 shots behind leader Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies), who shot a superb five-under-par 68 on Saturday for a 147 aggregate, one over.

Lockett, who will defend her county crown on her home course next week, is on 157 after opening with an 80 and moved up one place from her overnight standing.

Rotherham GC's Olivia Winning, who overhauled Mehaffey in the final round at Troon last week to win the Scottish women’s open stroke play championship, is tied 18th after two consecutive rounds of 80.

Selby GC duo Megan Garland (83 80) and Ellie Goodall (83 80) share 34th spot along with Melissa Wood (82 81), whose Woodsome Hall GC club-mate Rochelle Morris bettered her first round score by eight shots.

The new Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup player has carded rounds of 86 78.
