Thomson, who placed fourth in the European Amateur during the summer, will head Down Under in the first week of January to take part in the Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship, the Australian Men’s Amateur, the Lake Macquarie Amateur, and the New South Wales Amateur.

His trip carries through into the first week of February.

England Golf will also be sending representatives to compete in the South America Amateur championship from January 21-24, including Bronte Law (Bramhall), behind whom Woodsome Hall's Rochelle Morris finished runner-up in the English women’s amateur championship at Hunstanton.

Bower's companions in South Africa will include Sundridge Park's Alfie Plant, who was runner-up to Lindrick's Joe Dean in the English men's amateur championship at Alwoodley and Pannal back in August.

Bower and Thomson are currently in Portugal with the England Golf men's squad for a week of coaching at Quinta do Lago.
