Yorkshire golf: Meltham's Jamie Bower in hunt to land Brabazon Trophy

YORKSHIRE champion Jamie Bower lies just two shots behind Australian leader Cameron Davis with a round to go in the prestigious Brabazon Trophy at the London Golf Club.

England international Bower (Meltham) stands 10 under having shot 67 69 70 to Davis’s 66 68 70.

He has had 18 birdies in three rounds – seven in round one, six in round two and five in round three, including three in a row from the fourth in the latter and four in seven holes towards the end of round two.

He has had just eight bogeys, the same as Howley Hall’s Ben Hutchinson, who lies fifth after rounds of 71 68 71 having carded 14 birdies.

Seven other Yorkshire competitors made the cut, including Dutch Junior Open champion Dan Brown (Masham) (71 69 77) and new Welsh Open Youths champion Bailey Gill, of Lindrick, who added two rounds of 74 to his opening 70.

Selborne Salver winner James Walker (The Oaks) sits just inside the top 50 following scores of 76 68 77.

He is two shots ahead of three Yorkshire players: Pannal Rose Bowl winner David Hague (Malton & Norton), who has carded 71 76 76, Lindrick Scratch Open title holder Ben Brewster, of Wheatley (74 73 76), and 2015 Yorkshire Order of Merit champion Phil Tomkinson, of Moortown (74 72 77).

Fulford’s Craig Smith is on 13 over (68 79 82).
