Yorkshire golf: Moortown GC’s Firth is man to catch in county championship at Fulford GC

MOORTOWN’S Ben Firth took a one-shot lead into today’s final two rounds of the Yorkshire men’s amateur championship at Fulford after successive rounds of two-under-par 70.

Just one shot back ahead of the championship’s 36-hole climax were Yorkshire county team-mates Jamie Bower (Meltham) and Dan Wasteney (Bondhay).

Wasteney shot 71 70 while new England senior player Bower shot identical scores in the reverse order over Tuesday and Wednesday.

Defending champion Julian Taylor (York) remains in the hunt to retain his title after shooting 70 73 to be only three adrift.

Forty one players made the 36-hole cut which fell at 153.
