It will be spared the ravages of the weather by being placed on a wall in the clubhouse alongside the junior section’s honours boards.

Junior captain Connor Longworth, Jack Ciullo, Cameron Newman and reserve Declan Stoppard were the players who won the competition by five points in last month’s final at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire.

The best two Stableford scores counted in each round and Doncaster amassed 162 points.

Doncaster junior organiser Simon Longworth said at the time: “Nobody at the club has ever been involved in an event like this and to win it puts us well and truly on the map. It was one of the best golfing days of my life and I didn’t hit a ball.”

Doncaster’s first hurdle towards national glory was to win the Sheffield Golf Union inter-club competition, which was contested by 37 teams. Then they had to win the Yorkshire team championship to take their place in the final.

In the first round all three team members played below their handicaps for a total of 80 points. In the second they did even better with a total of 82.
