YORKSHIRE Union of Golf Clubs’ president Jonathan Plaxton has two good reasons to believe his year could get of to a major-winning start in Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Both the European Tour title winners came through the county’s ranks and the Sheffield duo will carry Yorkshire hopes into the season’s first major, the Masters, at Augusta next week.

“They are two fantastic golfers and two fabulous young men whom I’ve spent a lot of time with and I would dearly love to see one or other of them wearing the green jacket,” said Plaxton.

He added: “The next Danny Willett or Matt Fitzpatrick could be in amongst our ranks now and we are working very hard to give them the opportunity to improve their game and to reach the heights that they want to reach.”
