FOUR teams from Yorkshire clubs have won their way through to next month’s national final of the England Golf Club Team Championship.

They all progressed from a regional qualifier at Lancaster and will play off for the title on Monday, August 8, at Frilford Heath, in Oxfordshire.

A quartet from Whitby - Janet McGeehin, Michael Coates, Siew Choon Tan and Robert Scott - led the way with 87pts while the other qualifiers include Shipley, whose team won the championship when it was played for the first time last year. A new team of four is representing the club in this year’s competition: Mick and Val Exley, and Peter and Ann Borsos.

Also through are Waterton Park (Glynn and Karen Andrews, Stuart Nice and Tracey Parker) and Low Laithes (Gordon and Jane Fawcett, Geoff Parkes and Michelle Walker).

They will meet qualifiers from three other regional events at the national final, which will be a feature of Golf Week, staged by England Golf to create a national grand finale for a host of handicap and team championships.
