Yorkshire trio make England senior bow as Ireland are held in Home Internationals at Royal Portrush

LINDRICK’S Joe Dean enjoyed singles success and Dan Brown (Bedale) helped collect a point in the foursomes as they made their England debuts in the Home Internationals at Royal Portrush, County Antrim.

England held hosts Ireland to a 7.5-7.5 tie while Scotland beat Wales 11.5-3.5.

Meltham’s Jamie Bower, also making his senior England bow, played in both the foursomes and singles, but went down to defeat in each match.

Brown teamed up with Sundridge Park’s Alfie Plant, the man Sheffielder Dean beat in the final at Alwoodley at the start of the month to win the England Amateur championship.

They secured a one-hole win over Robin Dawson and Alex Gleeson.

Dean defeated Dermot McElroy 2&1 in the singles.

On Thursday England take on Scotland while Ireland face Wales.
