YORKSHIRE Veteran Ladies team addressed a 4-3 defeat against Cheshire in their opening Northern England Richardson Trophy match with victory by the same score in the Roses clash at Hesketh.
The overall score hints at a close battle with Lancashire and that was the case, with three of the seven matches finishing on the 18th hole.
However, Yorkshire champion Julie Wheeldon had a resounding win against her Red Rose counterpart Chris Appleby, beating her 8 & 6.
Yorkshire’s Karen Jobling and Sandra Paul also snared the points available to them, each with a 4 & 3 success, while team-mate Pat Wrightson lost one down to Lancashire’s Janet Melville.
In the fifth Carol Simpson sunk a sizeable putt on the 18th hole to get the better of Chris Stokes and ensure overall victory.
The final two matches saw Yorkshire’s Judy Butler losing to Ann Lowe 4 & 3 and their final player Jackie Barraclough battled her way back from three down only to succumb 2 down to her opponent.
Yorkshire’s next match is against Northumbria at Rotherham GC on Tuesday, June 23.
