Goodison showing stomach for battle

Sailing: Paul Goodison is still in contention for a medal at the ISAF Sailing World Championships – despite posting his worst finish of the regatta so far yesterday.

The 34-year-old from Rotherham, suffering from a head cold and an upset stomach, started the day well in the Laser with a second-place finish.

However, Goodison dropped down to 24th in race two, his lowest from eight outings so far, but with his worst allowed to be discarded he remains in second overall.

Australian favourite Tom Slingsby leads but only by 11 points.

“It has all been quite consistent which was the aim looking ahead to gold fleet racing – hopefully I can push a bit harder and see what happens,” said Goodison.
