Grayson's priority is replacing Beckford in attack

The Elland Road manager has already added four new faces over the summer following the capture on free transfers of Kasper Schmeichel, Federico Bessone, Paul Connolly and Billy Paynter.

But a striker remains a priority following Jermaine Beckford's move to Everton along with bolstering both the midfield and central defence, the latter likely to be without Patrick Kisnorbo until Christmas.

Grayson, who has reaffirmed his commitment to United after being linked with the managerial vacancy at former club Leicester City, is reluctant to discuss potential targets amid speculation Scunthorpe United's Gary Hooper is on his wish list.

But he said: "There are certain areas in which we need to strengthen. The four we have brought in so far will be good acquisitions and anyone else who comes in has to be of a similar quality.

"I know where we need to strengthen. Ideally, I would like to get a couple more in before we go to Slovakia next week. That means the new lads will have the chance to get away with the rest of the squad and get to know us."

With the quartet of new arrivals at Elland Road having been out of contract at their previous clubs, United fans are still waiting for the first transfer fee of the summer to be paid.

Grayson, who is also scouring the loan market amid speculation that Sanchez Watt may return to Yorkshire from Arsenal, added: "When clubs have players under contract they are certainly entitled to ask for a fee that they feel is relevant.

"We have gone down the road of getting players out of contract in as early as possible. We can then go and look at players who are under contract at other clubs."

On the vacancy at Leicester created by Nigel Pearson moving to Hull City, Grayson added: "It is flattering to be speculated about but I am fully committed to Leeds United.

"I have just got the team I support into the Championship."

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed his 3m signing from Hull, Stephen Hunt, will not be fit enough to make his debut until October.
