Greaves's double fails to halt leaders

Yorkshire One

After two defeats and a draw, leaders Wheatley Hills got their campaign back on track with a 35-13 home win over tail-enders Yarnbury.

Tries from winger Jamie Webb, hooker Mark Cahill, second-row Andrew Penno and No 8 Byron Elliott helped them to victory. Both Yarnbury's tries came from full-back Andrew Greaves.

Second-placed Sheffield, with a game in hand, bounced back from their one-point defeat by Yarnbury with a 21-0 win at Heath, and Castleford kept up their revival with a hard-fought 17-14 home win over Bridlington.

Sheffield edged ahead with a first-half penalty and try and capitalised on Heath's mistakes in the second half to score a decisive win at Halifax.

Donal Collins kicked the visitors ahead after nine minutes, and second-row Tom White scored their try after 18. There was no further score in the first half, when Heath missed a drop goal attempt and a penalty attempt by Collins hit the crossbar and bounced out.

Collins kicked a penalty and drop goal early in the second half and Sheffield sealed their win when Heath dropped the ball and winger Alex Hill hacked on to touch down, Collins converting.

Castleford scored three tries to one but were pressed all the way by visitors Bridlington.

Scrum-half Nathan Davies scored Castleford's opening try, but two penalties by Steve Mellonby saw Bridlington edge in front 6-5 before home winger Steven Hayward brushed aside four tackles to touch down, Carl Paterson converting from the touchline.

Mellonby kicked a third penalty and winger Brian Kerr's try put the visitors 14-12 ahead before Castleford's No 8 Gareth Burns ran through from his own 22 to score.

First-half tries by No 8 Will Marshall and outside centre Ollie Rodgers gave Dinnington a 10-3 home win over Bradford Salem.
