Griffiths warning over Knights’ complacency

Doncaster Kinghts director of rugby Clive Griffiths says his side can not afford to be complacent as they visit in-form Blaydon today.

The Knights are so far living up to their billing as National One favourites with eight wins gained from their opening nine matches.

But they did slip up two weeks ago at Henley and Griffiths wants them to be on their guard against a Blaydon side who have won five straight after a slow start.

“They are on a winning run and they will be full of confidence,” said Griffiths.

“Let’s hope they are over-confident thinking they beat Henley who we lost to.

“It’s all psychology. If they beat us then they will have had to earn it. We have to just do what we can and not worry about other people and decisions that get taken out of our hands.

“We will be looking to get a result ourselves and keep our place at the top of the table.”

Matt Clark and Dougie Flockhart are unavailable for Doncaster. Griffiths said: “We will miss them, they are good players, but we can’t moan, we have to just get on with it.”

Wharfedale have won five of their last six, a run that has taken them into the top half of the National One table.

They head to Richmond today hoping to end a long spell without a victory in the capital.

Hull Ionians welcome Worthing Raiders to Barntingham Park still in search of a first win of the season.

The team promoted to the third teir have found life tough on the step up, but they have a chance today against a side who have only won two games themselves.

In National Two North, in-form Harrogate look to make it five wins from six when they host lowly Caldy.

Head coach Mike Aspinall said: “We are winning the games we should be winning. We set the players some challenging goals. They weren’t delusions of grandeur – it’s what we’d like to accomplish rather than what we feel is possible. But ideally we’d like to finish in the top five.”
