Halifax's Wilkinson family on top form at Allerton Park

THERE was a record entry for the regional event of the British Horse Driving Trials Association's competition organised by the North Eastern Driving Trials Group at Allerton Park.

Club classes ran alongside those offering drivers the chance to qualify for the national championships at Windsor in September.

The Wilkinson family from Halifax were on top form again with John winning the novice horse class and daughter Tara novice pony. Brother Ross was third in regional novice.

Wendy Mason, from Scarborough, won the intermediate horse class with her coloured gelding and in the pony pairs class, Douglas Strachan, from North Ferriby, had his second win of the season.

The open horse class was won by Lyn Longbottom, from Ossett. Jane Wilson, from North Newbald, won the open pony class – this was only her second event following a five-year break for both her and her pony. Wetherby's Pat Cooper won the multiples with her tandem of black and white horses.
