Hanagan set to lift a Lester

WITH three entries, champion Flat jockey Paul Hanagan heads Yorkshire’s entries at the Lesters – horse racing’s own ‘Oscars’.

The Malton rider is nominated for Flat jockey of the year and the special recognition categories.

His victory on Opening Nite in the John Smith’s Handicap at Ayr has been nominated as one of the rides of 2010.

James Sullivan, attached to Mick Easterby’s stable, is among the nominees in the apprentice jockey category while Amy Ryan, from North Yorkshire, is in contention to be the 2010 lady jockey of the year.

Northern Racing College graduate Rhys Flint – the twice John Smith’s Hurdle winner at Wetherby with the durable Fair Along – heads the four nominees for the NH conditional jockey of the year award.

Grand National hero AP McCoy, 15 times champion jockey, is in the frame in three categories.

McCoy, who has already won 16 Lesters, has received nominations for ‘Jump Ride of the Year’ on Don’t Push It in the John Smith’s Grand National, ‘Jump Jockey of the Year’ and ‘Jump Jockey Special Recognition’ in view of his BBC Sports Personality of the Year triumph.
