Harlequins v Leeds Carnegie in Premiership postponed

LEEDS CARNEGIE'S trip to Harlequins in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday has been postponed due to safety concerns at the Twickenham Stoop.

Premier Rugby has agreed with Harlequins that their round 13 match against Leeds will be postponed.

This is not due to the pitch conditions, but the surrounding concourse area of the stadium and the terracing which has been deemed too dangerous for spectators.

Phil Winstanley, rugby director at Premier Rugby said: "It is unfortunate to lose the Harlequins match today.

The playing surface was fit to play but the surrounding access areas were deemed to be too dangerous.

"With the forecasted conditions over the next 48 hours, I believe that we have taken the right decision to prevent unnecessary travel for supporters and players.

"We will now work with Harlequins and Leeds to look at dates when the match can be played.

"As with all the other postponed fixtures, we will have a better idea when that may be after rounds five and six of European competition later this month."
