Headingley pitch due for further inspection

leeds Carnegie will make a further assessment of the pitch conditions today before making any final decision on whether Sunday's Aviva Premiership match against Northampton Saints goes ahead.

The ground covers have been on the Headingley Carnegie pitch since last Tuesday and the club are confident the pitch will be playable.

Four inches of snow was on the covers before the anticipated further deluge last night, but the walkways around the ground have been cleared.

Games involving Newcastle tonight and Sale at the weekend have already been postponed.

In the Championship, Doncaster's scheduled home game with leaders Worcester has already been called off and Rotherham yesterday followed suit by postponing their home game with London Welsh, both again due to the adverse weather conditions.

Wharfedale travel to London Scottish in National One with the capital club waiting until lunchtime today before making a final decision, in the hope that a thaw clears the pitch of snow.

Otley's scheduled home fixture with Macclesfield is still on, although with sub-zero temperatures expected again tonight, the club are not optimistic it will go ahead.

In National Two North, the matches involving Hull Ionians and Huddersfield are off.
