Help find new homes for rescued horses

WORLD Horse Welfare has re-homed a record number of horses following a campaign to raise peoples’ awareness about the wide range of horses and ponies that are available at their four rescue centres, one of which is in Blackpool.

The charity decided to make July ‘Re-home a Horse’ month to encourage more people to consider giving a horse a home by highlighting the cases of horses already in new homes and doing useful jobs.

These included ponies being used as part of a conservation project, a horse which could take a disabled rider to the Paralympics, horses helping the disabled to gain in confidence and learn new skills and a show pony now competing at a high level.

Last month, a total of 31 horses and ponies were re-homed from the charity’s rescue centres.

This compares with July last year when just 12 horses were re-homed.

Roly Owers, chief executive of WHW, said he was delighted that so many horses had found new homes but added: “Although this campaign has been hugely successful, we still rely on members of the public to consider re-homing one of our horses at at all times throughout the year as our centres are always bursting with a fantastic variety of horses.”
