Hetherington is comeback queen of Buckingham

Rosemary Hetherington capped a superb comeback to clinch the overall supreme ridden championships at the British Show Horse Society National Championships held at Addington Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire.

Riding the six-year-old Irishbred gelding Hallmark IX, which took the final day's cob championship, Rosemary took the title having last sat on the horse in February.

Hallmark had a successful weekend with regular jockey Jack Cochrane taking the Horse of the Year Show lightweight cob and championship, the working cob and Grand Prix Working Cob and supreme besides the tricolour in the Classic Performance section. Rosemary also took the Blue Chip Irish Draught Special Award of 100.

Simon Charlesworth from Great Ayton, riding Tonya Teasdale's eight-year-old gelding Military Crisis, took the HOYS small riding horse and reserve champion and was also second in the large HOYS qualifier with Karen Hill's homebred Hillocks Rustic Gold.

Sarah Ambler from Halifax, riding the five-year-old Lucifer III by Deltic, took the novice riding horse and reserve champion.

The nine-year-old Intrepid II bred by Derek Walker was a winner in the restricted large hack and reserve champion with Ali Talbot.

Samantha Brayshaw from Harrogate was delighted when her four-year-old Midnight Scoundrel, ridden by Rachael Helliwell, took the rising star's riding horse and was second in both the novice and HOYS Riding Horse, clinching her ticket for Birmingham. They were also in the young riding horse section.

Charles Le Moignan from Doncaster was second in the lightweight cob riding Janet Platt's Tommy Tucker and was also second with Ian Darcy's lightweight novice cob Randalstown Langmark.

Vicky Smart from Sutton Bank had a second in the novice small hack and third in the young hack with the five-year-old Chivola by Invincible Spirit. Averill Blundell from Felixkirk's seven-year-old Walleroo Boy, ridden by Leon King, was second in the HOYS large hack and fourth in the classic section while her other horse, Dallas Gazumpa ridden by Sally Cowley, won the dressage.

Paul Langrick from Easingwold, riding D Collinson's Carbon Copy, won the novice working cob and had a second with Caroline Saynor's young cob Mooncoin.

Craig Eleanor from Borrowby took the Martin Wood Supreme in Hand Championship and reserve in the Royal Mile overall supreme with the three-year-old winner Thriller. Margaret Traves, with her homebred seven-year-old mare Miss Keeness, full sister to Thriller, had a win in the riding horse, second in working riding horse and fourth side-saddle.

Laura Nicholson, based at Janet and Sarah Ambler's Halifax yard, was delighted to win the first ridden and her ticket for the Horse of the Year Show as well as clinching the mini tricolour and overall supreme ridden at NPS Area 4. Laura is in her second season with the seven-year-old Dartmoor pony Uppacott Marjosse. Laura also qualified the show hunter pony Romai Mr Micawber by Bottingelle Swansong, bred by Tony and Meg Adamson, which also had some good placings at the BSPS Championships.

Madge and Paul Taylor from Cawood's two-year-old colt Moortown Crusader took the two/three-year-old colt section at the Dartmoor Pony Society Summer Championships.

Crusader went on to take the overall young stock championship, best Devon-bred and also the Shilstone Rocks Championship.
