Home form key for Steeldogs – Payette

SHEFFIELD Steeldogs’ player-coach Andre Payette retains full faith in his struggling team as they face a tough weekend on the road in the English Premier League.

The Steeldogs head to fifth-placed Slough Jets on Sunday night before heading back down south on Sunday to take on current leaders Guildford Flames.

Any points picked up this weekend will be a welcome bonus to Payette’s team as they linger four points and one place outside the play-off places.

The departure earlier this week of forward Danny Wood to Elite League strugglers Hull Stingrays is a blow to the South Yorkshire club, but something Payette feels should not distract his team from their priority of making the post-season.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence in the players that are still here,” said Payette, whose team have followed a nine-game losing streak with four wins in their last six games. “It’s two tough games this weekend, so anything we can pick up is a bonus. But our home form is the key – if we can win our home games, we will probably make the play-offs.”
