Home riders fail to excel at Todmorden

Yorkshire riders struggled to make an impact on the latest round of the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Points Series, as riders from other counties dominated the top placings in the senior race in round eight at Centre Vale Park in Todmorden yesterday.

Preston's Ian Bibby took overall victory in the 14-lap race, crossing the line around 20 seconds clear of Leicestershire junior Danial McLay, while Nick Craig from Derbyshire took third. Lancaster's Stuart Reid (Wheelbase) took fourth and the best-placed Yorkshire rider was Northallerton's Noel Clough.

Craven Energy Tri Club's Ian Taylor was next over the line, just ahead of Crosstrax rider Neal Crampton, while others in the top 10 included Bingley's Rob Jebb (Wheelbase).

However, while Yorkshire glory was hard to come by in the senior men's race, Otley's Adela Carter was top woman and Ed McParland took victory in the youth race from Ribble Valley CRC rival Tom Armstrong.

In North Yorkshire, National Trophy Series leader Paul Oldham from Lancashire took victory in the North East CCA event at Croft Motor Circuit as he completed his preparations for this weekend's National Championships at Sutton Coldfield.

And on Saturday, Trophy Junior champion Tom Moses, the Team Wallis CHH rider from Oakworth, finished third in the Notts and Derby League event at Great Longstone in Derbyshire, while Nick Craig took the win and McLay took second, just inches ahead of Moses after a closely-fought race.
