Grizzel is Royal Ascot bound after getting up close home to maintain her unbeaten record in the Hilary Needler Trophy Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Beverley.
Successful on her debut at Sandown, the Richard Hannon-trained filly was held up at the rear of the field by Pat Dobbs as Boater and Clem Fandango set the pace.
After seeing off the 2-1 favourite Boater a furlong out, Clem Fandango looked like gaining the spoils, but Grizzel (5-2) came with a powerful late run to win by a neck.
“She’s a lovely filly and she’ll go for the Queen Mary or the Albany now,” said Hannon.
