Horsfall and Myers steer Greens home

Wharfedale secured a second notable scalp at the Avenue in defeating Esher in a game they dominated for long periods.

Neither a strong rear-guard finish nor their three tries to two advantage could disguise the fact that the fancied Londoners were outplayed by an energetic and hungrier home side.

Wharfedale produced some exciting early running, with a cohesion and pace lacking in recent seasons. They scored an excellently-worked try when winger Simon Horsfall finished at pace after a smart Nick Taylor break. Right on half-time Christian Georgiou added a penalty to his earlier conversion for a 10-0 lead.

Esher were a more forceful presence after the break scoring an early try through Andrew Wright. Aaron Myers created the chance for Georgiou to stretch the home lead with a penalty before Horsfall’s chip over the defence saw Taylor collect and dive over.

Two late Esher tries cut into the Greens’ advantage buy they hung on for the four points.
