The league’s bottom side, without a win in their last four games, were up against a Leicester team sitting in fifth place and unbeaten in three.

However, dreadful weather conditions were undoubtedly a leveller and for long periods Huddersfield looked set for success.

The first half looked destined to end without a point being scored until a penalty was awarded with the last play and fly-half Chris Bell succeeded with the kick.

The second half played out in similar fashion with Huddersfield seemingly in control and Bell had the chance to add a second penalty only for the wind to foil his ambition.

Still it seemed neither side was destined to score a try until the closing seconds when winger Devon Constant sprinted away to break visiting hearts.

Huddersfield are bottom on 26 points after 20 games, five points behind Luctonians, who have three matches in hand, and Broadstreet.

Sandal slipped to a 19-13 defeat at home to Chester after losing out in the second half penalty count.

The hosts had to come from behind in the first half to be level at half- time after conceding an early converted try and a penalty.

Greg Wood kicked a penalty and then converted a try from winger Simon Frewin to make it 10-10 at the break.

After the interval, Chester had the wind advantage and used it well to go 19-10 in front with three consecutive penalties, but Sandal claimed a bonus point when fly-half Wood landed a kick in the final quarter.

Sandal are three points behind sixth-placed Otley, who have a game in hand after their match against leaders Macclesfield at Cross Green was called off.

In National Three North, Hull grabbed a dramatic late 25-24 win at Lymm thanks to a tremendous 50-yard penalty from fly-half Josh Bragman.

The Yorkshire side were trailing by two points when Bragman took aim from distance to complete a super comeback from the visitors.

Hull had trailed 13-7 at the break after back-row Danny Hague’s early try had been cancelled out, but they stormed back late in the game with scores from Joe Stafford at back-row and prop Tanumi Tomasi.

Full-back Lee Burch converted one of those tries, before Bragman took control and sent over another conversion to wrap up the game with a stunning kick four minutes from the end.

Sheffield’s scheduled encounter with Burnage fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.
