Huddersfield Town v Southend United: Clark stresses loyalty lies with Town

League one: LEE CLARK has moved to reassure Huddersfield Town fans he was never in the running to be Burnley's new manager.

The Clarets this week named Brian Laws as Owen Coyle's successor but only after intense speculation had linked Clark with the vacancy.

It was even claimed in some quarters that the Terriers chief had been interviewed but Clark insists: "I had absolutely no contact with Burnley and I want to put the record straight. I don't want my loyalty being questioned.

"On the day I first heard my name mentioned with regards Burnley, I didn't feel the need to make a comment. In fact, as the story gained momentum, I was busy moving into a new house in Huddersfield. That is an indication I don't plan on going anywhere."

There is little doubt, however, that Clark's work at Town is being noticed with an unnamed Championship club having offered him a position in August that he firmly rejected.
