Hull City still hoping to offload high earners before closure of the transfer window

NIGEL PEARSON may have just spent a fourth consecutive night in hospital but Hull City could still be involved in transfer deals during the final few hours of the window.

The Tigers manager was rushed in for tests last Friday afternoon after complaining of chest pains.

Those tests have since come back all-clear, but Pearson is understood to have remained in hospital last night as a precaution.

Despite that, the demands of modern-day football are such that City may still be involved in transfer activity ahead of the 6pm deadline.

Hull's head of football operations Adam Pearson said last night: "There have been a lot of calls going on but I can't say at this moment whether anything concrete will happen.

"The transfer window has been one of the quietest there has been because there just isn't the money around that there has been in the past.

"Ideally, we would like to see some movement but, at the moment, it is a case of waiting and seeing what happens next.

"We have got the wage bill down, though not as far as we would have hoped."

City have slashed their wage bill during the summer but are still keen to offload 45,000 per week record signing Jimmy Bullard, right.

He has not been considered for selection so far this season in order to try and facilitate a move away from Yorkshire.

Previously, Hull have stated the 31-year-old midfielder will be "available for selection" if still at the club once the window has closed.

Bullard, who turned down a loan switch to Celtic earlier in the summer, is due to receive around 2.3m in wages from the Tigers this season.

A failure to insert a clause in Bullard's 5m transfer from Fulham meant his wages were not reduced following relegation. The deal runs until the summer of 2013.

It is understood Hull's hopes of bringing in Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala on a season-long loan deal are dependent on at least one high-earner leaving.

Agreement has been reached with the Premier League giants over the 19-year-old's season-long switch to the KC Stadium.

In his previous job as Leicester City manager, Nigel Pearson loaned Jack Hobbs, David Martin, Astrit Ajdarevic and Jay Spearing from the Anfield club.

A failure to push the deal through today would not, however, be too damaging for City with the loan window for Football League clubs opening on September 8.

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Leeds United manager Simon Grayson is hoping to tie up a deal for Honduran international Ramon Nunez.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who played in this year's World Cup finals, has been on trial at Elland Road throughout August and appears to have persuaded the club's management to offer a contract.

Nunez will require a work permit, but due to being a regular with Honduras this is not expected to be an issue.

Leeds may also look to extend the loan deal of Manchester City midfielder Adam Clayton, who during the opening four weeks of the season has made two appearances from the bench.

United are also hoping one or more of transfer-listed trio Alan Sheehan, Andy Robinson and Lubomir Michalik could leave Elland Road.
