Hull stung by struggling Flyers

Ice hockey: Hull Stingrays suffered a surprise 7-3 defeat at home to the Fife Flyers last night.

The Stingrays have been punching above their weight this season and went into the game in sixth place in the Elite League and at the top of the Gardiner Conference. But Sylvain Cloutier’s side came unstuck last night at Hull Arena as ninth-placed Fife swept into a 2-1 lead in the first period and never looked back.

They extended that to 5-2 at the end of the second and the hosts were unable to claw back the deficit. Carl Lauzon, Cloutier and Guillaume Doucet scored for the Stingrays who face a quick turnaround as they travel to Belfast to take on the champions-elect tomorrow night.
