Hunslet Hawks 16 Oldham 29: Hunslet burned by Ashe

Championship: SCRUM-HALF Matty Ashe scored two tries and kicked four goals as Oldham made it a losing start for Hunslet's former Super League winger Waine Pryce.

Pryce, the ex Castleford, Wakefield and Featherstone winger, will expect better service in future as the Hawks failed to bring him into the game enough.

To complete Hunslet's misery, hooker Darren Robinson was sent off just before the end.

The Hawks were six points up in as many minutes, centre Wayne McHugh converting his own try.

However, Ashe followed up his own kick to grab the visitors' first try and put them level with the successful kick.

Further tries by second rower Joe Chandler and winger Paul Reilly threatened to break Hunslet's resolve but the Hawks' player-coach Paul March kicked to the corner for centre Dave Clayton to snatch his team's second try, reducing the deficit to six points at the interval.

Oldham centre Mick Fogerty was sin-binned but in his absence Ashe kicked a penalty and scored his second converted try, winger John Oakes scoring Hunslet's third try.

Lucas Onyango's try in the right-hand corner left the Hawks an uphill task with their visitors leading 28-16.

Ashe missed an opportunity to increase the lead with a penalty before stand-off Neil Roden had the last word for Oldham with a neat drop-goal.
