Title rivals Cardiff Devils and Belfast Giants were also in action last night, but no points were at stake as the visitors overhauled a one-goal deficit from their semi-final first leg to cruise to an emphatic 5-1 victory in Northern Ireland and book their place in the Challenge Cup final for a third year running.

But last night it was the league that mattered, the Steelers hitting cruise control to remain in the hunt in what remains a fierce three-way battle at the top.

Andreas Valdix opened the scoring for the Steelers with just six seconds remaining before the end of the first, Levi Nelson doubling the advantage at 26.54.

But mayhem ensued at the start of the third period, when a four-goal blitz ended any hope Fife had of a comeback.

Walker opened his account for his new club at 41.21 before Jonathan Phillips made it 4-0 just 95 seconds later.

It got even better for the home side after a Colton Fretter goal with only another 42 seconds having passed by. John Armstrong completed the carnage just over a minute later before a late consolation came for Fife at 51.58 from Sebastien Thinel.
