Job done says Wentzel as Leeds prepare to compete on level footing with rivals

INFLUENTIAL captain Marco Wentzel admits he does not care who wins Leeds Carnegie's final game at Bath.

Such was the relief after leading his side to their crucial victory over Worcester yesterday, the South African second-rower conceded he was not even worried about their trip to The Rec on May 8.

"They can have it," he said.

"I honestly don't care. We're in the Premiership.

"We'll go down there and play – it's the way Backy is – and we might give a few guys a chance but we're not thinking about that now.

"Usually we're thinking about the next game straight away but we've a week off now and we'll enjoy it."

Wentzel – who had already signed a new deal regardless of which league they would feature in next season – was instrumental in guiding Leeds to victory.

His dominance in the lineout was pivotal and the ex-Leicester man continually thwarted Worcester's best efforts to claw their way back into the game.

The 30-year-old said: "We had it under control but then the bounce of a ball went against us for their try and the last 10 minutes were very tough.

"We didn't play that well second half or manage the ball but it's a win and we're in the Premiership next year. It's job done."

He anticipates the Yorkshire club can now begin progressing with some stability behind them especially given their central funding will be the same as all their rivals for the first time in their history.

"Before, we've had a 2m squad playing against a 4m squad, but now we can get more players in and build.

"We've developed as a squad already from the beginning of last season to now and we won't have to be starting from scratch again."

Meanwhile, Worcester have launched an investigation after one of their players – Chris Cracknell – was allegedly involved in a fracas with the father of his team-mate James Collins after the final whistle.
